Hello from an Irishman downunder
Hello from an Irishman downunder
Hi everyone.
I just purchased my first Toyota yesterday, but more importantly, my first TA22 1973 Celica.
I am planning to do a full resto-mod job on her.
Coincidentally I am going to Tokyo on Friday morning for a holiday. (Booked it months ago). Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a few small bits like clear lenses, badges, hood and side grill.
I've been reading this forum and classic-celica forum for the past few days. There really is a wealth of knowledge floating about and some great projects.
The car i bought has had bodywork done and been primed. Actually looks quite a decent job. Not to say I don't trust the guy who did the work, I'm just going to go back to bare metal anyway. Chances are he missed some rust or didn't do a proper job at all. Is this a wise solution? (I may check the most usual spots for rust and also on the roof where he claims to have removed rust and rewelded)
Picking her up tonight. Only 15 minutes away from my house in Brisbane.
It has a 2T engine which runs. Clock says 82k but it's more likely 182k. I will be transplanting a turbo engine in, rear axle from a supra most likely and all the other things that go along with this kind of upgrade.
I'm budgeting $AUS 10k. This budget doesn't include wheels though. I will spend whatever has to be spent near the end of the project. Whatever it takes to compliment the hard work i will have put in.
Car cost $1,500.

Picked her up last night.
Lots of extra's I didn't think I was getting. A few badges, a full set of rubber window seals (Brand new in packaging). Bonnet Vents and side grill too but they need some TLC.
Brand new Celica carpet. It was only loosely fitted by the previous owner.

Ha ha cheers Gordon.
I'll probably be offloading the badges I got at some stage. My Celica is going to be clean with no badges.
I'll give you a ring Saturday morning. I have to fit a new O2 sensor to my existing car first and maybe then I can come over and have a look through some of your stock!
Re. The O2 / lambda sensor. I got a quote in Oz for the part. $500
Got one on ebay, brand new genuine bosch for 30 pounds sterling. Arrived yesterday.
Some people aye!?

Looks and sounds like a great score, especially when you get bonus items.
Grats,
