Hi All,
I'm David and this is my second go around here, but let me explain. A year and a half ago I decided I wanted to get a classic Celica and started lurking, trying to learn. Then I got laid off and that pretty much torpedoed my plans. Now I've been at a steady job for a while, getting my finances squared away and I'm ready to start looking for that Celica again. I'm not a car mechanic at all and one of the reasons that I wanted a classic car was to learn some. I apologize in advance for the stupid noob questions that I'll be asking. Unfortunately I'm busy enough now that I really don't have the time (work weekdays in Phoenix, weekends in Dallas and go to school at night), so I'm most likely going to go with paying someone else to do it. I know, that stinks. Sorry.
Right now, no, I don't have my Celica yet. But I'm looking. I'm going to get a '77 RA29. Yes, it has to be a Liftback; no, I'm not interested in a Coupe (like it, just don't want one). I'll be looking to do an engine swap, along with upgrading the brakes, suspension, lsd (type 2 AE86 from GTS?) and steering (change to rack and pinion). And top it with some chrome smileys (yes, I know they're rare and pricey) and new wheels (Supras?) I think my biggest decision right now is whether I want to start with a nice representation RA29 in the $5k-$6k range and go from there, or start with a $1.5k beater and full restore/upgrade. The former is easier, so to speak, but I'd kind of like the car to be the color I want. I'd hate to get a nice one and have to strip it and re-paint it.
Anyway, just wanted to say "Hi" before I start asking questions.
